WhatsApp Verification Scam

SCNX will never send you verification codes, login codes, or unsolicited messages via WhatsApp. If you received a WhatsApp message containing a verification code that mentions SCNX, it is not from us.

While SCNX does offer a WhatsApp number for customer support, we will never contact you first. We will never send you verification codes, one-time passwords, account alerts, or promotional messages over WhatsApp. Any message like this claiming to be from SCNX is a scam.

Do not respond

Do not reply to the message, click any links, or share the code with anyone. Responding confirms your phone number is active and can lead to further scam attempts or account takeover on other services.

I received a WhatsApp verification code mentioning SCNX - what should I do?

  1. Do not respond to the message or enter the code anywhere.
  2. Do not click any links included in the message.
  3. Do not share the code with anyone - even if they claim to be from SCNX support.
  4. Do not call back any phone number included in the message.
  5. Report the message to WhatsApp by following WhatsApp's official guide on reporting spam.
  6. Block the sender to prevent further messages.

Why am I receiving this?

Scammers use the names of real companies to make their messages look legitimate. In some cases, these scam accounts may even appear as verified on WhatsApp (with a green checkmark) - this does not mean they are actually affiliated with SCNX. Scammers can obtain verification for fraudulent accounts, so a verified badge alone should never be trusted.

You do not need an SCNX account to be targeted - most people receiving these messages have never used SCNX. These messages are sent in bulk to large lists of phone numbers.

Your phone number may have ended up on such a list through:

  • A data breach from another service
  • A publicly available listing (social media profile, business directory, etc.)
  • Random number generation by automated tools
  • Number recycling (a previous owner of your number was on a list)

These scam messages typically try to trick you into:

  • Entering a code on a fake website, giving the scammer access to one of your accounts
  • Replying to confirm your number is active, so they can target you with more scams
  • Clicking a link that installs malware or leads to a phishing page

How does SCNX actually communicate with users?

  • Authentication: SCNX uses Discord OAuth exclusively. You log in with your Discord account - no phone number, SMS, or WhatsApp code is ever required.
  • Support: While we do have a WhatsApp number for support, we only respond to messages you send us first. We will never initiate contact with you over WhatsApp.
  • Notifications: SCNX sends notifications through email, our dashboard, and Discord. Never through WhatsApp or SMS.

If you did not message SCNX support on WhatsApp yourself, any WhatsApp message claiming to be from us is fake.

How to protect yourself

  • Never share verification codes you receive via WhatsApp or SMS with anyone, regardless of who they claim to be.
  • Enable two-step verification in WhatsApp (Settings > Account > Two-step verification) to add an extra layer of protection to your WhatsApp account.
  • Be skeptical of any unsolicited message that creates urgency ("verify now or your account will be deleted").
  • Check the sender - official SCNX communications come through our dashboard, email, or Discord, not through random WhatsApp numbers.

Can SCNX stop these messages?

Unfortunately, no. These messages are not sent from our systems, and we have no control over them. WhatsApp does not provide us with a way to take down accounts impersonating our brand. The best thing you can do is report the sender directly to WhatsApp - your reports are far more effective than anything we can do on our end.

To report the scam account to WhatsApp, follow WhatsApp's official guide on reporting spam.

Still have questions?
